electric vehicle from Faulkner Hyundai Harrisburg in Harrisburg PA charging at home

Yes! In fact, most EV charging is done at home because not only is it convenient, but it's also affordable. Most plug-in electric vehicle drivers do more than 80% of their charging at home (source: energy.gov), but there are levels of charging based on the output and time taken for a full charge:

  1. Level 1 charging: the most straightforward way of charging. All you need is a household outlet that can take a 3-prong plug! This is a slow option, though and can take over 24 hours to deliver an optimal battery charge of 80%.
  2. Level 2 charging: The fastest way to charge at home with a 240V outlet. A level 2 charging station can be installed on the side of your house, in a garage or your private parking lot. It can deliver an optimal battery charge of 80% in 4 to 5 hours.

With over 40,000 public charging locations spread out across the country, you are sure to find one near you. Use Electrify America's Charger Locator to find a charging station near you.

Not all public charging stations are free. Some major retailers offer free chargers at many locations. Most charging stations, however, will charge you either by the kilowatt-hour (kWh), the amount of energy transferred to the car’s battery, or by the time taken to charge your vehicle.

However, if you're buying a Hyundai KONA Electric or IONIQ Electric, you're in luck! As a thank you for purchasing or leasing a 2021 IONIQ Electric or 2021 or 2022 KONA Electric, we're picking up the tab at any Electrify America fast-charging station! You’ll get free charging anywhere in their network, up to 250kWh or about 1,000 miles of driving. Find out more about how you can make the most of this benefit.

Every electric car in the U.S. can charge at Level 1 or Level 2 with a J1772 connector, and the connector comes standard with the car. Level 2 public charging stations all use J1772 connectors.

If an EV is capable of DC fast charging, it will have a J1172 connector with two additional large pins that allow it to plug into and charge using a DCFC system. But you will need to understand the type of charging port your vehicle requires, and which types of charging stations will work for your needs.

All 2022 Hyundai KONA Electric and IONIQ 5 Electric vehicles have standard DC fast charging capability with SAE Combo Combined Charging System (CCS). So you will need to look for a charging station with CCS connectors to charge your Hyundai EV.

Most all-electric cars can now go more than 200 miles on a full charge. The Hyundai KONA Electric can go for 258 miles on a full charge while the IONIQ 5 has a range of 303 miles.

Yes! Currently you can get a $750 rebate for a Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) and $500 rebate for a Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV). No, but electric vehicles have lower long-term maintenance costs associated with them. That’s because EVs eliminate over two-dozen mechanical components that would generally require service at regular intervals such as tune-ups, oil changes, cooling system flushes, transmission servicing, and replacing the air filter, spark plugs and drive belts.

You will still need to follow the manufacturer's recommended periodic checks to keep the vehicle running in its best condition and to keep the warranty in effect. If you don't follow the recommended schedule, the warranty may not cover any repairs that the car might need down the road.

Some maintenance checks include: tire rotation, replacing the cabin air filter and wiper blades, topping off the washer fluid. Bring your EV to Faulkner Hyundai Harrisburg of Harrisburg and we'll be happy to performance the necessary checks.

All of Hyundai EVs can seat 5 passengers. The IONIQ 5 is bigger and significantly more spacious. It can also easily accommodate two car seats so it's perfect if you're looking for a family EV.
